When the 23rd round of GaLaBau opens its doors in Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 12 to 15 September 2018, visitors can look forward not just to a comprehensive product display spread over 14 halls; they will also gain a great deal of expert knowledge from the various forums, networking formats and special interactive display areas. For example, players in the motorized equipment and power tool segment can this year enjoy the premiere of a networking forum (dialogue with motorised equipment specialists) as well as a daily breakfast meeting. Designers, landscape architects and playground specialists should make sure not to miss GaLaBau Landscape Talks, the special show and presentation series “The future of outdoor play – the playground experience from schoolyard to park” and the GaLaBau Expert Forum. Arborists will feel right at home in the BaumpflegeLIVE zone. The honorary sponsor and founding father of GaLaBau is BGL, the Federal Association for Gardening, Landscaping and Sports Field Construction. Some 1,400 exhibitors and 65,000 trade visitors are expected to attend.
Stefan Dittrich, Exhibition Director GaLaBau, is already looking forward to the event: “At GaLaBau, trade visitors will not just find a complete range of products and services for planning, building and maintaining green spaces. Alongside the exhibition, gardening and landscaping experts will also benefit from a huge amount of professional expertise. I am very excited about the new programme specifically for specialist retailers of motorized equipment and power tools. I also think it is brilliant that this time round selected presentations in the GaLaBau Expert Forum and GaLaBau Landscape Talks will be conducted in English for the first time for the benefit of our international trade fair visitors.
Two new formats for motorized equipment retailers make their debut
The networking forum (dialogue with motorised equipment specialists) will be making its first appearance at GaLaBau this year. GaLaBau is offering this event in partnership with the German trade journal “Motorist” on the day before the exhibition on 11 September 2018. In the Nuremberg restaurant Bratwurst Röslein, visitors will enjoy a variety of TED-style talks on topics such as “Successful succession planning” and “Win employees and recruit online” A discussion panel on “Motorised Equipment 2020” with Heribert Benteler, Managing Director of the Stihl Sales Centre, is also on the agenda. It all starts at 15:30. For more information and to register go to:
www.motorist-online.de/motoristen-im-gespraech/150/61176.
Another new feature is the breakfast event for specialists in motorised equipment and power tools. It offers dealers in gardening and motorised equipment even greater benefits during GaLaBau and takes place each morning from Wednesday through Friday. It will be followed by a guided tour on a specific theme. In the afternoons a get-together is also planned at the “Motorist” magazine stand in Hall 10.0 (Stand 10.0-309a).
A wealth of expertise on playground and urban design
Great news: Manufacturers of playground equipment and recreational facilities will no longer be limited to Hall 1 at GaLaBau 2018. Due to increased demand internationally in the playground segment they will now also occupy part of Hall 2. Some 150 exhibitors are expected. In 2018, as in previous years, there will once again be a special show in Hall 1 organised by the German Federal Association for Playground Equipment and Leisure Facility Manufacturers (BSFH) and the international trade journal “Playground@Landscape”. In 2018 the theme will be “The future of outdoor play – the playground experience from schoolyard to park”. The special show promises to offer lots of ideas for designing play areas for schoolyards, day-care centres, parks and public green spaces. Tilo Eichinger, President of the BSFH, explains: “Movement and play creates experiences and situations that encourage children to interact and negotiate at an emotional level. Children learn to make decisions subjectively and handle the consequences of their decisions. This makes a not inconsiderable contribution to the development of their personality. Sufficient movement promotes health and vitality and therefore prevents poor development outcomes while strengthening their mental development. Physical exercise is a major part of how young people experience themselves and their environment.”
There will be associated presentations on this subject area at the BSFH forum on the morning of the second day of the exhibition. Topics will include “Progressive design of sports facilities in an era of fast-changing trends in sport”, “Schoolyard design for disabled access” and “Servicing and maintenance of playground equipment. The BSFH seminar will also take place in 2018 at the GaLaBau Landscape Talks forum area in Hall 2.
Concentrated professional expertise for designers and landscape architects
The GaLaBau Landscape Talks will be located in Hall 2 for the first time in 2018. On the first and third days of the exhibition, visitors can look forward to fascinating presentations devised by the editorial team from the garden and landscaping magazine “Garten + Landschaft” published by Callwey Verlag. It all gets off the ground on the first day of the fair, 12 September, with the topic “Green infrastructure for sustainable urban development”. The potential and impact of green roofs and facades will also be discussed. And there will of course be real-life examples. On the second day of the event from 14:30 the spotlight will be on plants as an element of urban planning. On 14 September the focus will then turn to roof gardening. New in 2018: For the first time selected presentations will also be offered in English.
Designers and landscape architects should also make sure to visit Hall 3A, where the Association of German Landscape Architects (bdla) will have a stand presenting the association as such as well as the profession of landscape architect or designer. Every day of the trade fair will feature a different thematic focus developed with external specialists and experts from the association. And don’t forget the popular construction seminar on 13 September.
Also in Hall 3A, the BGL offers another attraction for designers and landscape architects. As part of the GaLaBau Expert Forum there will be two 15-minute TED-style talks every hour on each day of the fair covering the topics home gardens and public green spaces, regulations and standards and business management. These short presentations, some of which will be in English, are intended to provide the most important information on the various topics briefly and compactly, and offer visitors an informative glimpse into the respective areas of gardening and landscaping. Apart from these short talks, all prizes and awards of the BGL and European Landscape Contractors Association (ELCA) will also be presented at the GaLaBau Expert Forum.
BaumpflegeLIVE: communication zone for tree experts
To keep trees healthy they absolutely must be looked after professionally and thoroughly. Professional tree surgeons and tree climbers as well as anyone interested in this field have their regular meeting place at GaLaBau: the BaumpflegeLIVE (tree care) zone in Hall 3A, organised by TASPO Baumzeitung magazine and Freeworker, a tree care equipment supplier. It combines knowledge and interaction and offers experiences and networking opportunities. However, the main focus is on the needs of the tree. In specialist presentations experts will provide tips and suggestions on tree care, showcase new products and get involved in discussions. In addition, the highly practice-driven special show will demonstrate longstanding and new working techniques live on a special rig as a substitute for a real tree. Interested visitors will also have the opportunity to try it out for themselves under supervision. For the first time the event will feature a green-themed cafe offering a tasty range of food and an inviting place to chat and relax.
