After 13 years, DOMOTEX Middle East is making its return to Dubai. From 23 to 25 April, the show will celebrate its long-awaited revival at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), marking the start of the annual exhibition platform in this region.

Hannover, Germany. DOMOTEX, the world’s leading brand for trade fairs for the carpet and flooring industry, is underlining its global business ambitions by re-establishing DOMOTEX Middle East in 2024. The first event is taking place from 23 to 25 April 2024 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

With the shows’ return to Dubai, Deutsche Messe as organizer is responding to the Middle Eastern market’s long-standing demand for an annual and centrally located exhibition platform in this respective target market. “The construction, development, real estate and interiors sectors in the Middle East are continuously growing. Therefore, the demand for carpets and floorings is constantly growing and so is the market share of the Middle Eastern flooring industry,” explains Sonia Wedell-Castellano, Global Director of the DOMOTEX events worldwide. Based on a sales volume of 8.6 billion US dollars in 2022, the Middle Eastern flooring and carpet market is expected to reach around 14.55 billion US dollars by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 7.2%.

Navid Monzavizadeh, Export Manager of Solomon Carpet is looking forward to the returning show: “DOMOTEX has always been an extraordinary event providing suppliers an opportunity to unveil their latest trends of unique designs for the customers attending from all around the world. Choosing Dubai as location for DOMOTEX Middle East was a very smart decision by the team as Dubai has a great infrastructure and allows visitors to easily travel there from all around the world. We are thrilled to be part of DOMOTEX Middle East in April!”

Known for its inclusivity, diversity and its status as the commercial hub of the region, Dubai offers a perfect location for the DOMOTEX show. With an excellent business and trade fair infrastructure – including numerous flight connections to destinations all over the world as well as safe and effective public and private transport – the city ensures seamless and easy access to the trade fairs’ venue for both, exhibitors and visitors alike. Mahir Julfar, Executive Vice President of the DWTC, remarks: “We are extremely pleased to host the DOMOTEX Middle East at Dubai World Trade Centre. This prestigious event will further enhance our diverse 2024 events agenda, which is shaping up to be the busiest and most dynamic line-up of prominent events in the region and beyond. We are committed to empowering our organizers and contributing to their success by offering unparalleled solutions within our world-class venue. We look forward to a mutually rewarding partnership with Deutsche Messe.”

The next DOMOTEX will take place from 12 – 15 January 2023. By retaining the established date right at the beginning of the year, Deutsche Messe AG is responding to the wishes of the majority of the market and creating planning security for exhibiting companies and trade show attendees.

Hannover. The next edition of DOMOTEX, the leading trade show for carpets and floor coverings, will take place in Hannover from 12 to 15 January 2023. The decision on the date in January 2023 was taken following intensive market discussions. DOMOTEX will be a face-to-face event with additional digital offerings. This means that all participants will once again have the platform they have been longing for, for networking and to exchange ideas on a personal level. Exhibiting companies and trade show guests from all over the world will be able to exchange information on new products and current trends in the industry – both onsite and virtually.

“With the new date of DOMOTEX in January 2023, we want to give the players in the carpet and floor coverings industry the greatest possible long-term planning security. We want to give our customers the opportunity to finally meet in person again, to be inspired and to forge new business relationships,” says Sonia Wedell-Castellano, Global Director DOMOTEX, Deutsche Messe AG, Hannover. “Having already had to cancel DOMOTEX twice due to the pandemic, we would have liked to give the industry its platform again this year. However, after intensive discussions with exhibiting companies, unfortunately a majority couldn’t be found for a late summer edition of DOMOTEX in September 2022. The preferred option of the entire market is to keep the usual date right at the beginning of the year.”

“It is particularly pleasing to see the approval already given by market-relevant exhibitors and global brands, who are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to finally meet the industry again,” says Wedell-Castellano. “Exhibiting companies and visitors can look forward to an extensive program with innovative ideas and digital offerings. To be able to meet the world of carpets and floor coverings live in Hannover again in January 2023 is a real highlight after all this time! We are looking forward to finally getting back on track with DOMOTEX in Hannover.”

Hanover, Germany. DOMOTEX will not take place in January 2022. This was announced by Deutsche Messe AG as organizer of the leading trade show for carpets and floor coverings.

“We have been fighting for DOMOTEX together with the exhibiting companies until the very end, and have been in daily communication with the industry for months,” says Sonia Wedell-Castellano, Global Director DOMOTEX, Deutsche Messe AG. “DOMOTEX is particularly affected by the impact of the Corona pandemic, as the vast majority of DOMOTEX exhibitors and attendees come from abroad. However, given the current pandemic situation, international business travel is not expected to recover in the short term,” adds Wedell-Castellano.

Just over a month ago, the organizers wanted to stage DOMOTEX in the southern part of the Hannover exhibition grounds in a compact format as a Re-Start event in three halls, thus giving the industry a chance to meet physically after almost two years of pandemic. Wedell-Castellano: “What was considered a realistic and promising Re-Start scenario a month ago, and was also well received by the market, has proven to be no longer feasible in recent days.”

The organizers are looking into a DOMOTEX date later in the 2022 calendar year.

The DOMOTEX Digital Days were meant to offer a unique and high-quality platform for business and networking to the flooring industry. At the beginning of the conceptual phase, a digital DOMOTEX 2021 was received with support and commitment from the exhibitors. A few weeks before the event date, however, there is both a certain “digital fatigue” and an increasing desire for face-to-face meetings in the industry.

The demand for digital formats in the industry has been met by now. Furthermore, despite the pandemic – or in parts because of it – exhibitors are reporting a healthy order book.

With the special edition DOMOTEX DIGITAL DAYS 2021, our aim was to play an active role in shaping the current crisis. Currently we have to conclude that despite all the sound digital ideas and innovative approaches, the on-site experience of DOMOTEX cannot be replaced. Taken that into consideration, we have decided to cancel DOMOTEX DIGITAL DAYS 2021 in May and are looking forward together with you to the next DOMOTEX, that will take place as a hybrid event from 13 to 16 January 2022 as a hybrid event at the exhibition grounds in Hannover.

After initially being postponed to May 18-20, DOMOTEX will no longer take place as a hybrid trade show format this year. The current global infection situation in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic makes it impossible to plan and organize a physical presence on site in Hannover at the world’s leading trade show for carpets and floor coverings. Instead, new digital formats will cover the topics of the international floor coverings industry in May 2021.

Following the renewed rise in coronavirus-related new infections on a global scale, Deutsche Messe AG has decided that DOMOTEX 2021 cannot take place as a hybrid event as planned, after initially shifting from January to May. Currently, an alternative digital business platform is planned in form of the DOMOTEX DIGITAL DAY on May 20, 2021. The focus element of this platform is a digital conference that will address current and forward-looking topics in the international flooring industry.

“Trade shows like DOMOTEX, which are characterized by a very high level of internationality on both sides, amongst exhibitors as well as visitors, have a long planning period. Following the recent surge in global coronavirus cases, accompanied by lockdowns, worldwide travel warnings and restrictions and quarantine requirements, we now have had to make this decision. Unfortunately, for the first time in its 32-year history, we will not be able to organize DOMOTEX in 2021 as a physical trade show on our exhibition grounds in Hannover. Even a hybrid DOMOTEX is not realistic in the current situation, as it would require a certain proportion of physical exhibitors and visitors on-site, combined with travel from all parts of the world. We have therefore decided to organize DOMOTEX as a purely digital event, in order to give our customers the necessary planning security from now on,” says Dr. Andreas Gruchow, Member of the Management Board of Deutsche Messe AG, commenting on the final decision.

Sonia Wedell-Castellano adds: “DOMOTEX thrives on the live experience. The shown products need to be experienced live on-site in terms of their look and feel. As long as the global pandemic has us so firmly in its grip and a sufficient vaccination rate cannot be guaranteed worldwide, we cannot safely plan for the future with a physical event. Markets thrive on exchange. Our customers are urgently looking for participation formats, which allow them to get in touch with their customers, expand their existing network and access new contacts to present their products and innovations despite contact restrictions. Our answer to these needs is the DOMOTEX DIGITAL DAY. A conference format, in which we will address current topics with top representatives of the industry on May 20, 2021, and provide participants with an interactive business platform. As part of the conference, exhibitors will be able to present their products and innovations, embrace business and indulge into networking and connecting. The specific opportunities for participation will be available in our online store pretty soon.”

The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing trade show organizers to rethink. Numerous trade shows are currently taking place on a purely digital basis in response to the market participants’ desire for complementary digital offerings. With the new format DOMOTEX DIGITAL DAY, Deutsche Messe is acknowledging the importance of rapidly increasing online channels in the flooring industry.

The digital event will therefore also put a special focus on digitalization aspects.

DOMOTEX 2021 will take place as a digital-only event on May 20. The next hybrid DOMOTEX is scheduled for January 13-16, 2022, at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds.

The reasons for the postponement are based on the latest developments regarding the worldwide rampant COVID-19 pandemic. There is a general uncertainty in relation to travelling abroad. Many countries have introduced strict travel and quarantine regulations and it is impossible to predict for how long these regulations will be in place.

Although two thirds of the exhibition space – about 62,000 square meters – had already been booked and a comprehensive hygiene concept had been developed to comply with COVID-19 safety regulations, Deutsche Messe AG has decided to postpone the next edition of DOMOTEX to 20 – 22 May 2021. The show was originally scheduled to take place from 15 – 18 January 2021. The reasons for the postponement are based on the latest developments regarding the worldwide rampant COVID-19 pandemic and on the fact that, in view of these developments, clients, exhibitors and visitors have asked for DOMOTEX to be held at a later date. DOMOTEX is now planning a digital conference to take place on 15 January 2021, the show’s original start date.

The wide international reach and high-calibre visitors, such as top decision makers, are considered to be among the core benefits of DOMOTEX, the leading trade show for carpets and floor coverings: in January 2020, 70 percent of visitors came from abroad and more than 80 percent of exhibitors represented more than 60 nations. As every year, the flooring industry came together in Hannover. Now, the latest developments in the COVID-19 pandemic show that infection rates are rising again everywhere. Many countries have introduced strict travel and quarantine regulations and it is impossible to predict for how long these regulations will be in place. There is also a general hesitation to travel abroad and we do not know when people will feel safe to travel again. And then again, there is also the prospect that a vaccine may be available by the end of this year.

“It is our duty to act responsibly. From many conversations with exhibitors and partners we have learned that, first and foremost, we have to ensure planning security in good time”, says Dr. Andreas Gruchow, board member of Deutsche Messe AG. “With our comprehensive hygiene and safety concept, as well as with the positive registration situation, we were very optimistic until very recently. But the latest developments show that we do not know whether the travel situation will have significantly improved by January 2021. Consequently, we have decided to postpone DOMOTEX from January to May 2021. The discussions that we had with industry representatives on this issue have all been positive and have shown that the postponement is the right decision!”

Something else has also become clear in the many discussions with stakeholders: there is a need for complementary digital formats in order to respond to the rapidly rising number of online channels in the flooring industry and to establish an international, neutral platform under the name of DOMOTEX. Therefore, DOMOTEX 2021 will take place from Thursday to Saturday (20 – 22 May) as a hybrid event: a physical show complemented by virtual formats. Visitors who, for differing reasons, will be unable to travel in May, will thus at least have an option to participate digitally. For exhibitors, the hybrid format also guarantees the wide international reach for which DOMOTEX is known: physically, in the exhibition halls and also digitally extended, using new presentation formats to generate an even wider reach.

DOMOTEX sets up digital conference

The DOMOTEX team is also working on a digital conference, which will take place on 15 January 2021, which would originally have been the first day of the trade show. The keynote theme of “Cover New Ground!” is intended to encourage the industry to discuss what the “new normal in times of COVID-19” will signify for carpets and floor coverings and, regarding the design and application of flooring, to provide inspiration to think beyond existing strategies, visions and experiences and to look towards the future. More information will follow in due course.

DOMOTEX 2021 will take place from 20 – 22 May in Hannover, Germany.

DOMOTEX 2020: An event marked by sustainability, high-class attendance and international appeal

The world’s leading trade fair for carpets and floor coverings has once again underscored its status as the industry’s most significant trade, innovation and trend platform. A total of 35,000 attendees – 90% of them decision makers and 70% from abroad – came to explore the latest trends, products and solutions presented by over 1,400 exhibitors from more than 60 different countries.

From 10 to 13 January, the latest edition of DOMOTEX – the world’s leading showcase for carpets and floor coverings – again stood out as the industry’s biggest, most pivotal hub for trends and innovations. A total of 35,000 attendees – 70% of them from abroad – were on hand for the four-day event to explore the latest trends, products and solutions presented by over 1,400 exhibitors from more than 60 different nations. The show’s keynote theme of “ATMYSPHERE” highlighted the aspects of flooring products that contribute to a sense of wellbeing and promoted naturalness and sustainability – topics thoroughly reflected by the products on display.

“DOMOTEX is and remains our most international tradeshow. We are delighted that the event attracts attendees from around the globe, who come for 2.3 days on average – 60% from Europe, 25% from Asia and 10% from the Americas, with the remainder from Africa and Australia,” said Dr. Andreas Gruchow, the Deutsche Messe Managing Board member in charge of DOMOTEX.

“We have been truly impressed with the positive reception and special spirit at this year’s DOMOTEX. The attendance figures reflect an ongoing trend towards increased market concentration. The further rise in the percentage of high-caliber professionals is an important factor in business growth for 2020. Around 90% of the show’s visitors have decision-making authority at their companies, with half of them at top management level,” noted Sonia Wedell-Castellano, Global Director for DOMOTEX. “I am also delighted with how enthusiastically our exhibitors embraced the keynote theme of ATMYSPHERE, as well as with the success of the revamped ‘Treffpunkt Handwerk’ skilled trades hub and the volume of exhibitors who have indicated they will be back in 2021.”

Impressive visitor mix: high in quality and internationality

Exhibitors affirmed the success of their industry’s flagship fair with regard to two key performance indicators: “Our main concern here is not high attendance figures, but rather the right kind of attendees,” explained Hakan Dinc, CEO of Stefany Hali Tekstil in Turkey. This aspect was also clearly appreciated by visitors: “I made the decision to come to Hannover because this is where I can see what is happening across the global marketplace, which enables me to make the right choices for our customers,” remarked trends scout Andrés Jobet of Piso Urbano Alfombras, based in Santiago, Chile.

The high quality of this year’s event was also highlighted by Arman J. Vartian, proprietor of Vartian Carpets in Vienna, who had this to say after returning to exhibit at DOMOTEX following a five-year hiatus: “It seems to us that DOMOTEX is heading down the right path. The stands are now more attractive and appealing, and the show is clearly committed to supporting our industry.” Anke Hattingh, Marketing Director of Mapei GmbH in Grossostheim, Germany, praised the great diversity of exhibits as a “major source of inspiration.” And according to Bernhard ter Hürne, CEO of ter Hürne GmbH & Co. KG in Südlohn, Germany, “In terms of its reach, DOMOTEX delivers like no other European tradeshow can.”

Olivier Bossuyt, Sales Director at ivc group in Avelgem, Belgium summed things up by saying: “We opted to return to DOMOTEX after a two-year break because the show’s strong international pull enables us to meet with important trade partners and generate promising new leads – a fact reconfirmed by DOMOTEX 2020.”

One out of two attendees generates new leads at DOMOTEX

Based on this year’s visitor survey, almost half of all attendees (44%) used the event to generate new leads. Fred T. Keller, Marketing Director of Theo Keller GmbH in Bochum, Germany, reported a high number of walk-in visitors and new customers. He attributed this mainly to ongoing enhancements to the event, particularly the new hall layout launched in 2020, which he saw as a major step forward. “This new design has resulted in many more spontaneous customer contacts than previously, and we couldn’t be more delighted. DOMOTEX is definitely the most important trade fair for us.”

Attending DOMOTEX was also a “must” for Mirco Schäpe, Product Manager LVT at JAB Teppiche Heinz Anstoetz KG in Herford-Elverdissen, Germany. He spends several days at the event every year to meet up with existing and potential suppliers and “get a feel for emerging trends,” as he put it. Michael Massmann, National Sales Manager & Vice President of Textile Trading Group, Winter Park, USA, said he used DOMOTEX mainly to generate new leads, adding that: “We are naturally also keen on establishing new, preferably long-term customer relationships, while at the same time deepening our relations with existing customers and suppliers. We have attended every DOMOTEX since our business was founded three years ago, and that’s not going to change.”

“ATMYSPHERE” as a common thread

The show’s keynote theme was also well received by exhibitors. For example, Bernhard Reinkemeier, CEO of Reinkemeier Rietberg based in Rietberg, Germany, referred to it as being a “good match” for his company’s objectives, adding: “We very much welcome the keynote theme and its flanking measures, all of which are highly attractive and have helped us reach our goals.”

“The keynote theme perfectly reflected the spirit of the times, and its significance was clear to see throughout the halls. We are already busy exploring ways of featuring sustainability to even greater advantage at DOMOTEX 2021,” remarked Wedell-Castellano. “I also very much look forward to teaming up with the show’s players from the business community and the skilled trades so as to generate even more benefit for the industry and its clientele next year.”

The next DOMOTEX will be staged from 15 to 18 January 2021 at its traditional venue in Hannover, Germany.

After its successful premiere, the second edition of DOMOTEXT USA will be taking place from 5 to 7 February 2020 at the World Congress Center in Atlanta. The only North-American trade fair and conference event with a focus on carpets and floor coverings, DOMOTEX USA has positioned itself as a networking platform for the US flooring industry.

Having premiered successfully in 2019, DOMOTEX USA is gearing up for its second season, which runs from 5 to 7 February 2020 at the World Congress Center in Atlanta. Organized by Hannover Fairs USA, a Deutsche Messe subsidiary, DOMOTEX USA is the only combined trade show and conference event in North America that focuses exclusively on carpets and floor coverings. It is designed to foster business between manufacturers of flooring products and retail/wholesale companies, US building contractors, floor installation companies and purchasing groups. The show’s display categories encompass carpets, machine and handmade area rugs, hardwood flooring, laminate flooring, resilient flooring, outdoor floor coverings, and manufacturing, application and installation technology.

Big players and boutique specialists

For its upcoming season, DOMOTEX USA will again feature a stellar lineup of exhibitors. The 2020 exhibitor list includes some of the biggest names in the business, such as USFloors and Anderson Tuftex, as well as boutique providers of one-off originals. Among the best-known companies to have booked exhibition space so far are The Dixie Group, Mullican Flooring, Milliken, American OEM, and Foss Floor, to name but a few.

2019 exhibitors express confidence

“We were very satisfied with the outcomes we achieved from the inaugural show,” said Pat Oakley, VP Marketing, Mullican Flooring. The response to his company’s showcase was very encouraging. “Many of our sales partners and the most important partners from our dealer network were there.” Mullican was anticipating an increase in attendee numbers at the upcoming show, he said.

Brian Warren, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Foss Floors, said the show delivered “only benefits” to his company. “We sell a lot of textile products to industry partners, many of whom are based here in North Georgia. Nationwide customers like home centers and big-box retailers are another important channel for us. They were all there, and so it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase all of our products. We were overwhelmed by the response.”

Inspiring education sessions and networking opportunities

At DOMOTEX USA 2020, attendees will benefit from an extensive and stimulating conference-style educational program, with plenty of opportunities for quality networking on the sidelines. The program is structured into four thematic areas for different target audiences – Flooring Retailers, Interior Designers, Flooring Installers, and Builders/Contractors/Remodelers – and runs over three days. In an exciting new development, the program will include two accredited designers sessions per day thanks to a new partnership between the organizers and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). In addition, each day of the educational program will open with an address by a keynote or featured speaker. Wednesday will open with international economic analyst Alan Beaulieu; the opening keynote on Thursday will be given by brand leadership expert Denise Lee Yohn, and Friday’s opening address will be given by retail consultant and trainer James Dion.

Platform for successful networking

The educational presentations will be interspersed with plenty of opportunities for networking and dialogue with experts. For example, there’s the Opening Night Reception on Thursday, 6 February, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Earlier that day there is a lunchtime special-ticket event for interior designers titled “Design Personified: Turning Trends into Reality”. There is also an education forum in the central Plaza area of the venue. The forum is free of charge to all participants and includes a panel discussion featuring representatives of leading flooring industry companies. The education content also includes the new DOMOTEX USA Discussion Hub, a peer-to-peer learning platform where attendees can talk to industry experts, network and chat one-on-one with speakers after their presentations. The keynote theme for DOMOTEX 2020, which runs from 10 to 13 January in Hannover, Germany, is ” ATMYSPHERE “. Under this overall thematic heading, the world’s leading trade fair for carpets and floor coverings is focusing on specific wellbeing-enhancing aspects of the spaces where we live and work. One such aspect is “Floor & More” – the idea that rugs, cork elements and design panels need not be confined to our floors, but can adorn ceilings and walls also, creating an integrated design – a coherent, individual atmosphere that further enhances our sense of personal wellbeing. The upcoming DOMOTEX will feature an array of products that exemplify this approach.

Oriental Weavers , for example, produces tapestries that can be matched with its rugs and carpets to give rooms a stylistically coherent look. Its “Seychelles” product is a modern machine-woven tapestry featuring an atmospheric, abstract pattern in cool tones, available in five sizes. Used in combination with its “Kelim” cushion coverings, with their vintage designs and warm tones that complement Oriental-style floor coverings, they create the ultimate in harmonious atmospheres. “Kelim”, which is available in three sizes and is made of a hard-wearing mix of chenille, viscose and polyester, can also be used for squabs.

“Dekwall” by Wicanders, a brand owned by AMORIM Deutschland GmbH, is a collection of cork-based wall elements inspired by nature. Available in a large range of patterns, textures, colors and shapes, it can be combined with Wicanders cork floor coverings to create eye-catching interiors. Options range from matching floor and wall designs to single feature walls made of Deckwall modules. And because they are made of natural cork, the modules create comforting living and work environments that are quiet and warm. These vibrantly structured wall solutions by Wicanders comprise two cork layers and are easy-care and hypo-allergenic.

“SwissClic” panels by Swiss Krono deliver the ultimate in simplicity when it comes to realizing integrated interior concepts. The high-precision joining technology means the panels can be clicked together quickly and easily, without any special tools, to create continuous runs of wall or ceiling cladding with virtually invisible joints. The panels can be surfaced with a special primer foil, enabling them to be painted in almost any color. SwissClic panels are also available in authentic wood-look and unpolished concrete-look, yielding virtually endless interior design options. They are hard-wearing and easy-care and are also available as sound-absorbing acoustic cladding, capable of cutting ambient noise by up to 50 percent.

Modern floor, wall and ceiling coverings that can be used to create coordinated interiors with that all-important feel-good factor will be on show at DOMOTEX 2020, which runs from 10 to 13 January at the Hannover Exhibition Center in Germany. Inspired by the “ATMYSPHERE” keynote theme, exhibitors will display innovative products perfect for creating harmonized interiors – Floor & More.
